I just finished quilting that quilt top up there, one month to the day after I started it. It was nice to be almost monogamous with a quilt for a little while- not my usual way of working. I can't bind it until I take my machine in and I have some other quilts I want to pay attention to so I'm putting that off for a little while :) In the meantime I wanted to share a few pictures from this quilt's uh...inception?

In the beginning of March our apartment was a damp construction zone and being home all day every day was starting to get to me. So I fled to Detroit for a week! For seven glorious days I hauled and sorted brush, retrained Aisling's raspberry vines into a little fence, built massive fires (and made vine charcoal!), flirted endlessly with Gigi the yard cat, watched my beautiful bud wield power tools, and was lulled to sleep by trains. In the evenings Ais and I swapped fabric from our stashes and I started piecing this quilt from a mix of our combined florals.

Thanks for getting me through the last weeks of grey winter, quilt!

Fire photo by Aisling Arrington (and a small prayer that each of you at some point have a friend who sees you so fully).
