Mauve!!

I recently over-dyed an alley quilt* with RIT dye in a tub in the tub. I used cocoa brown, some hyacinth and a little tan, all in liquid form. The quilt was originally brown, pale blue, and white, and badly discolored from use, however the seams were in perfect shape. My goal was to shift some part of it to a mauve like my favorite Pansy bra and I feel like I succeeded :)) I also threw in my favorite (and therefor most stained) dishtowel and some old and well worn Object Apparel underwear. The 100% cotton dishtowel took a lot more dye than the quilt, as you can see above. That confirmed for me that the quilt is a synthetic/cotton blend- I had guessed from how slippery and silky the fabric felt where it was worn. While the results are… really spot on!! the quilt itself is a little light for us (that poly batting of the 70’s! Not my jam!) so I am planning on cutting it down a size (it’s huge!) to use as a guest quilt. I think it could benefit from some rounded corners and maybe a red or floral binding ;)

*Not recommended unless you have immediate access to laundry OR you know your neighbors! In this case both applied :)
